PALM SUNDAY - THE MASS

The Mass.

Station : S. John Lateran

The Mass that now follows, is said in purple vestments, and begins at the incensation of the altar.
The usual prayers at the foot of the altar are omitted. The Passion according to St. Matthew has
been shortened. The final Blessing ends the Mass. This Mass is in honor, not of our Lord's entry
into Jerusalem, but of His Passion. For this reason, probably, the palms are no longer held during
the reading of the Passion. It is the true Passion Mass. The account of the Last Supper has been
omitted, and the reading begins at the entry into the Garden of Gethsemane.

look upon me; why hast Thou forsaken me? Far from my salvation are the words of my sins. O Lord,
keep not...

by His patience, and partake in His resurrection. Through the same...

taking the form of a servant being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man. He
humbled Himself, becoming obedient unto death, even unto the death of the cross. For which cause
God also hath exalted Him, and hath given Him a Name which is above all names: (

and under the earth : and that every
