The Washing of the Feet.
In the middle of the
Choir, twelve chairs are prepared for those whose feet will be washed.
Meanwhile the following antiphons are sung.
The twelve men are led by the deacon and subdeacon. When the washing of the feet
is about co
conclude, the 8th antiphon is begun.
Antiphons.
1. John, 13, 34.
A new commandment I give unto you : that you love one another, as I have loved
you, that you also love one another. Ps. 118, 1. Blessed are the
undefiled in the way : who walk in
the law of the Lord. A new commandment.
Each antiphon is repeated in full to the psalm-verse.
2. John 13, 4,
5, 15. After the Lord rose from supper, He putteth water into a basin and
began to wash the feet of the disciples, setting them an example. Ps. 47,
