ORDINARY OF THE MASS

The Blessing.

The priest kisses the middle of the altar and says :
V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

The priest (or at High Mass the deacon) announces that the Holy Sacrifice is terminated.
V. Go, you are sent forth.
R. Thanks be to God.

Bending slightly over the altar, the priest says :

MAY the performance of my homage be pleasing to Thee, O holy Trinity; and grant that the
sacrifice which I, unworthy, have offered up in the sight of Thy Majesty, may be acceptable to
Thee, and through Thy mercy be a propitiation for me and for all those, for whom I have offered it.
Through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

The priest kisses the altar and, except at Masses for the Dead, blesses the faithful who
cross themselves :

MAY almighty God bless you : the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

R. Amen.

The priest goes to the left side of the altar to read the last Gospel.

The Last Gospel.

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.
V. The beginning of the holy Gospel according to St. John.
