ORDINARY OF THE MASS

Offering of Wine.

The priest pours the wine into the chalice, blesses the water and mingles a few drops of it with the
wine.

This wine is destined to become the Blood of Christ; the mingling typifies the union of the
faithful, represented by the water, with Christ.

O GOD, Who in a marvellous manner didst create and ennoble human nature, and still more marvel
lously hast renewed it; grant that, by the mystical union of this water and wine, we may be made
partakers of His divinity, who vouchsafed to become partaker of our humanity, Jesus Christ, Thy
Son, our Lord : Who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, one God, world
without end. Amen.

The priest offers the chalice, saying :
WE offer unto Thee, O Lord, the chalice of salvation, beseeching Thy clemency : that it may rise
up in the sight of Thy divine majesty as a sweet savor,
for our own salvation and for that of the whole world. Amen.

The priest and the faithful make an offering of themselves to God in sacrifice.

The priest forms with the chalice a cross over the corporal. Then having placed the chalice in
the middle of the corporal, he covers it with the pall.

Bowing down, the priest continues :
WITH a humble spirit and a contrite heart may we
be received by Thee, O Lord; and may our sacrifice so
be offered up in Thy sight this day, that it may
be pleasing to Thee, O Lord God.

The priest, invoking the benediction of the Holy Ghost, makes the sign of the cross upon the
oblation.

COME Thou, Who makest holy, almighty and eternal God, and bless this sacrifice prepared for
Thy holy Name.
