HOLY SATURDAY
be driven forth and the
power of Thy divine majesty hold full sway. Through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
All lights are put out.
The Procession and Paschal
Proclamation.
The deacon raises the paschal candle and intones :
Lumen Christi.
The Light of Christ.
Deo gratias.
Thanks be to God.
He repeats the same
words in a higher key. Finally he intones
it in a still higher key.
He then asks a blessing from the celebrant and sings the paschal
proclamation.
Now may the whole host of heaven rejoice indeed! Let the trumpet-note of
salvation sound the
triumph of the King. Earth, too, must take joy in the midst of such splendor;
for, ringed by the
glory of the eternal King, darkness has been lifted from all the world. So also
may our holy mother
Church rejoice in this radiance of glory, and this temple resound with the
praise of the people.
Therefore all you, my brethren, present here at the lighting of this holy flame,
most earnestly do
I beg to join with me in praying for the mercy of almighty God, that He Who for
no merit of my own,
has deigned to call me to His service, may enable me by His glorious shining to
extol this candle.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who is God, living and reigning with Him
in the unity of
the Holy Spirit...
V. World without end.
R. Amen.
V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit.
V. Lift up your hearts. R. We have lifted them up unto the Lord.
